Living in the Charente

Living in the Charente is very different from visiting as a tourist - as you can well imagine.

"To be able to fill leisure intelligently is the last product of civilisation" - Bertrand Russell

As we have so many things to fill our leisure here in the Charente, we must be highly civilised!!

But...when you get to France, one of the first things you’ll want to do is phone all your closest friends and family know that you’ve arrived safely. This, if you’re anything like us, will inevitably lead to lengthy conversations, which end up costing a fortune.

After parting with too much hard-earned cash to pay for our talkative habits, a friend recommended Skype, a free program that allows you to talk to other Skype users for nothing, and it really is fantastic. But why is it people only tell you about these great things after you’ve spent a fortune? Ho-hum.

New skills
Life in the Charente continues at a very different pace from other parts of the world we have lived in. It’s what we came here for – even if it occasionally brings frustrations. But once you have mastered the Gallic shrug, all is once more right with the world!

It’s a wonderful environment for picking up new skills and learning those things that you wish you had spent more time on at school. We know of tutors who come out to your own home to teach many varied topics,

including:
~ PC literacy ~ Piano ~ History ~ Photography
~ Cookery ~ Website design ~ Philosophy
~ Drama ~ Theatre workshops

To find out more about what these courses cover – or if you have skills you would like to pass on – do please contact us.
